The ways minerals form
There are two general ways most minerals form.
Crystallized from melted materials.
Crystallized from materials that have dissolved in water.
Minerals from Magma
When magma cools inside the crust, minerals form.
Crystal size
How fast magma cools, how much gas the magma has, and the chemical composition of the magma all effects the crystal size.
Minerals formed by hot water solutions
During the process of cooling, the hot water solution makes crystals.
Minerals from Evaporation
When solutions evaporate, they leave crystals.
An example is halite.
Halite is from evaporated sea-water.
Places where there are minerals
The crust of the Earth is mostly made up of minerals combined in different type of rocks.
Rare minerals and rocks are not evenly spread around the Earth's crust.
